Berry Cottage on Spruce Head Island is charming in its simplicity, highlighting the things that have forever made summers in Midcoast Maine remarkable. Think bare feet and bathing suits, reading nooks and bike rides, lobster bakes, and fishing off the dock.
Particular attention has been paid to the comfortable furnishings and necessary conveniences. The kitchen is at the front of the house, featuring bead-board cabinets and all modern appliances. The dining area is off of the kitchen with lovely views of the waterfront. The living room is centered around a large fireplace, offering comfortable seating and a TV. The sunroom/screened-in porch is located off the living room, accessed via sliding French doors. This room is perfect at any time of day - reading the paper in the morning, taking naps in the afternoon, or enjoying cocktails and appetizers as the sun sets on another beautiful day in Maine.
The primary bedroom, part of a recent renovation, is at the back of the house, offering high ceilings and lots of natural light and exposed wood. Find three other bedrooms upstairs, one of which is accessed through another. The fifth bedroom is in a separate, window-lined cottage on the grounds.
The sandy beach and private wharf allow for easy boating and fishing, while the island is friendly to walking and biking. Spruce Head Island is located in South Thomaston, between the towns of St. George and Owls Head. Connected to the mainland by a causeway, the unique location gives guests a chance for island living without the need for a ferry. Rockland, Rockport, and Camden are all nearby, while Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Boothbay Harbor, and Portland are just a day trip away.
