Classic camp right on the deep clean water of Forest Lake or Nelson Pond as the locals call it. Excellent swimming and boating and fishing. Great for a small family, or two couples, or a romantic summer getaway. Well-behaved dogs welcome. The house is located in the remote cove, which it shares with two other camps that are close by,. The house looks out to a peninsula and preserved forested land. Very 1960s inside. Outside, huge deck over the water. Loons, bald eagles. Located just 25 minutes from Vermont’s capital Montpelier.
Downstairs is open with a 1960s kitchen and a living room with a working fireplace. Windows overlook the lake. Sliding glass doors lead to a huge deck over the water that has a table with an umbrella, a Weber gas stove, and various chairs to sit and enjoy the view. Upstairs there are two adjoining bedrooms, no hallway. Both bedrooms have new queen beds, and the master has air conditioning. The other room has two bunk beds as well, perfect for children.
The lake is sandy-bottomed, no muck, and one of the cleanest lakes in Vermont. The cedar dock is perfect for diving off. There are kayaks and a rowboat to explore the lake. The lake does allow motorboats so feel free to bring one and moor it at the dock.
The cove is a magical spot, the smallest part of the lake. This camp shares it with two other houses nearby, both owned by couples in their early seventies. We do ask for quiet time between 10 Pm and 8 am. The lake is full of bass and trout, and there is great hiking nearby.
